Test transmissions took place in Luxembourg, beginning in 2015 from Dudelange and reported in various forums during 2018. The transmission provider BCE reports that the site Hosingen has been equipped with a DAB antenna to allow SFN tests with Dudelange and "possible commercial exploitation".
In 2023, the regulator published a proposed timeline for the deployment of DAB/DAB+. Enabling legislation is proposed to take place this year. An operator's licence for the first ensemble is proposed to be advertised in Q1 of 2024, in accordance with the new legislation. Capacity for service providers is expected to be advertised, if not at the same time, then at least during the same quarter. The concept of a second layer for local broadcasters is expected to be elaborated during Q2 2023, with the advertisement of operator(s) for the second layer in Q2 of 2024. The timeline foresees rollout taking place 2024-2027.
