The Mexican regulator COFTEL has authorised the use of the proprietary digital radio system IBOC, marketed as "HD Radio", in the AM and FM bands. The decision means that Mexican broadcasters are able, if they wish, to use IBOC either in hybrid analogue/digital or in full digital modes. According to a statement from iBiquity, who own the system, they are working with broadcasters and retailers "to accelerate the roll-out of HD Radio technology in Mexico."
